First Impression of GPT-6 Astra

GPT-6 Astra made this video in Chat. Not even Codex. This was the first cut.

I used the last 20% of my Codex weekly limit to try GPT-6 Astra.

My first impression: faster computer use, stunning 3D and video output, but too much unnecessary babysitting.

I uploaded a messy pile of test outputs into Chat: my 3D avatar reconstruction attempt, Blizzard-themed generations, the Astra-style starry website recreation, and my review.

Then I asked it to turn all of that into a video.

Honestly, that was insane.

What impressed me most wasn’t just the quality. It was the creative judgment.

It felt like Astra actually understood the material: what mattered, what to show, and how to show it. I didn’t have to spell out every creative decision.

That felt like a real jump over 5.6 Sol.

The frustrating part: it sometimes says it will continue, then just stops until I say, “Go.”

So no, it’s not magic yet.

I still needed iteration, judgment, and guidance to get results I was happy with.

But turning a messy pile of inputs into something this compelling? That genuinely impressed me.

My weekly limit resets Sunday night. Until then, I will use GPT-6 Pro in Chat with Claude Code this weekend. More Astra testing after the reset!
