2026 March Recap

"AI is supposed to save me time, but now I find myself building all evening and weekend. It's actually increasing my time in front of the computer." 😂
4 weeks back in Ottawa. Here's what March looked like:
I spent 3 weeks trying to build the new real-time voice architecture for Joe Speaking. Got nowhere. Then Gemini 3.1 Flash Live dropped and simplified everything. Shipped the biggest update.
At the same time, shipped 22 versions, 146 PRs, 1,017 commits since alpha last month.
Why am I so excited? The organic traction: 465 views, 410 logins, 123 active users, 32 paid. 50 people completed a core feature, 20 paid for it. 40% conversion. (An incredible number!)
I'm now building the introduction video and improving real-time conversation stability.
I also worked on several side projects while waiting for results:
- Consolidated 12 years of X/Twitter data into a knowledge graph, integrated into my personal site as well as Pretext.
- Open-sourced apple-bento-grid (went viral on Threads, 157 stars) and TIM Project Skills
- Helped rebuild the Nicol Internship website and introduction video
You can just build things.
(But I should have a good rest before shipping... 😂 😂 😂 )
